The Ramirez’s personal background is a moving and compelling American story. Immigrants from Colombia and Guatemala, the came to the United States at a young age in search of a better life. In the process they have become advocates for immigrants whether its families or individuals. They both understand the obstacles and difficulties new immigrants face day to day.
Ramirez is the President of the Board of Jornaleros (Day Laborers) Humanitarian Project of Rockland County, which serves immigrant and non immigrant day laborers, and is a board member of the Latino Pastors Association of Rockland. Both founded Faith in Action Ministries, which has helped Mexican and Guatemalan families over the past 8 years with document and passport issues and advocates for the rights of Latino workers. Juan Pablo Co-Chairs the Rockland County Immigration Coalition and is a board member of The Hudson Valley Community Coalition. Juan Pablo and his wife are Pastors at Torreon Fuerte Mision Cristiana in Spring Valley.
The Ramirez’s have volunteered with Helping Hands, an interfaith coalition providing shelter to homeless people in Rockland County. And they have helped the Rockland Haitian Relief Taskforce reach out to the county’s Haitian community and send food and supplies to Haiti.
Ramirez services as a liaison with numerous community-based organizations, including the Rockland Immigration Coalition which he Co Chairs and the Hudson Valley Community Coalition, which address issues of concern to immigrants and reach out to the business, government, and legal communities. Juan Pablo has recently been appointed Latino Community Liaison to The Town of Ramapo Police Department.
Recipient of 2012 Rockland 40 under 40, 2012 Spring Valley NAACP Unsung Hereo Award, 2010 National ACAP Making A Difference Award, 2010 HACSO Community Involvement Award & 2010 Konbit Neg Lakay Community Partner Award. Juan Pablo has also been featured on the Nanuet Patch Volunteers in the News online article in the October 2010 edition. Yanali also serves as liaison for the Guatemala Consul General of New York in Rockland County.
